Portraiture

Portraiture is a genre that I have a deep passion for. Whether it is using natural light, or artificial light, there is something special about working with an individual, or a group, to capture their moment in time that will last forever.

I see each photo session as an opportunity for me to convey the emotions, beauty, and character, of the subject, through the lens of the camera.

Christmas lights

The lights of a Christmas tree, are always make a good background for a portrait.

The image was taken using:

  • 50mm lens.
  • f/2 aperture.
  • ISO 800.
  • Shutter speed of 1/100.

This large aperture gave a lovely bokeh to the Christmas tree lights.

Tip: If I had used an aperture size of f/14 or smaller then the Christmas lights would have become like star bursts

Preparing for an Illustrative magazine cover

All images for the photoshoot were captured in studio, using 2 rim lights and a key light fitted with an octagonal soft box.

The key light was positioned in front of the model at 45deg facing down to give a butterfly lighting effect.

The Seymour photoshoot - April 2024

The Seymour's had never had a photoshoot before. They were very happy with the result of the shoot.

A collage from five of their favourite images were printed onto a large transparent acrylic frame, which they now proudly hang on their lounge wall.
